COMPOSITIONS
I have written commissions for numerous schools, churches, and institutions, including the San Francisco Girls Chorus, the North Dakota Music Teachers’ Association, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, the Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus, Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra, Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra, Central Dakota Children’s Choir, and the soundtracks of two documentaries by North Dakota Public Broadcasting, Prairie Churches and Homesteading. See my “Selected Compositions” for a listing of my works and links to recordings. I was twice selected as a composer in residence for the Faith Partners program of the American Composers Forum, working with partner churches in Saint Cloud and Owatonna, Minnesota.
CONDUCTING AND ADJUDICATING
I have conducted festival choirs throughout the US, including church ensembles, honor choirs from middle school through college, and adult choirs. I directed collegiate ensembles for 30 years, church ensembles for over 35 years, and a community choir for 33 years, including performances in Carnegie Hall, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Cathedral of Saint Mark in Venice, and La Sagrada Familia. I have adjudicated festivals throughout the Midwest, including choirs, jazz choirs, and church ensembles.
RETREATS AND WORKSHOPS
For 12 years, I served as the Director of the Office of Worship for the Diocese of Bismarck, during which time I hosted two regional conferences of the National Pastoral Musicians Association, spoke at conferences throughout the country, and served on the board of the National Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions. For 30 year,s I was active as a member and leader in the American Choral Directors Association, for which I assisted in the planning of state and regional conferences and presented a number of workshops. During my tenure at the University of Mary, I developed a major in Sacred Music, a Master of Arts in Music, and a graduate certificate in Sacred Music. I taught sacred music, music theory, choral conducting, and composition.
